Thao Nguyen writes wiry, percussive indie rock that sits between funk and folk, playing guitar and banjo more like rhythm instruments than lead. With the Get Down Stay Down she made records including A Man Alive and Temple, the latter drawn from her family's flight from Vietnam. Live the songs get looser and more physical than on the albums.
