Lafayette Gilchrist is a Baltimore jazz pianist who leads the band Lafayette Gilchrist and the New Volcanoes. His album Soul Progressin won Best Jazz Album at the Independent Music Awards, and his music was used in the TV series The Wire. He has also played in saxophonist David Murray's Octet.
