Johnny Trama and The B3 Kings

Johnny Trama and The B3 Kings are a Boston groove band built around the Hammond B3 organ, playing soul, boogaloo, funk and blues with a rock and roll kick. They started out on 1960s organ boogaloo in the style of Jack McDuff, Lonnie Smith and Lou Donaldson, and the sets now mix originals with covers of Junior Walker, The Meters, Booker T. & the MGs and Ray Charles. Johnny Trama, a guitarist who has played with soul singer Bettye LaVette, leads the band and leaves room for jazz-style improvising over the organ grooves. Their weekly late-night residency in Cambridge has run for years.
