Gabriel Kahane is an American composer and songwriter who works on both sides of a line most people treat as fixed. He writes song cycles, orchestral music and theater pieces, and he tours as a singer at the piano. Craigslistlieder made his name by setting real classified ads as art songs. Book of Travelers came out of a two-week train trip across the United States taken without a phone. His recent work leans on documentary material and long-form storytelling, and he has served as creative chair of the Oregon Symphony.
