Exhumed

Exhumed have been playing gore-obsessed death metal out of San Jose, California since 1990, with guitarist and vocalist Matt Harvey the one constant through a long parade of lineups. Gore Metal set the template in 1998: Carcass worship played faster and filthier, with two voices trading a high shriek against a low growl. The later records got sharper and more melodic without losing the splatter, and live they remain one of the most purely fun bands in the genre.
