Started in Boston in 1987, the Cheater Slicks have built a vast body of recorded work — somewhere between trash garage, noise rock, and melancholy pop-psychedelia — that has largely flown under the radar of the mainstream music press while earning devoted cult status. The group began as a four-piece, with early bass duties shared by Merle Allin (GG's brother) and Alpo (former member of the Real Kids), before settling into the core trio of brothers Tom and Dave Shannon alongside Dana Hatch.
