A Golden Wire: Timæus is an intimate early-music program presented in the Bayard Henry Long Room at the Boston Athenaeum as part of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Creation Festival. Drawing on Plato's Timaeus and the ancient idea of the music of the spheres, it pairs English Elizabethan and Jacobean works with Italian instrumental music to explore a worldview in which harmony shapes not only sound but the structure of the universe, from the movement of the planets to the human body and voice. The evening blends performance with commentary rather than following a conventional concert format.
